The replica is the result of a years-long significant collaboration between the Lewes Public Library, Lewes in Bloom and Art in Bloom, Lewes Parks and Recreation Commission, the City of Lewes, the State of Delaware and Schell Brothers, who designed and built the new structure. The structure showcases works of art on the station windows and walls, as well as on the Young Artist's Wall, which showcases themed art by local young artists.
The Lewes Public Library and Art in Bloom chose the railroad theme for this project as a metaphor for movement in and out of Lewes when the railroad was a principal method of freight and passenger transportation. It is located on the back of Lewes Junction, adjacent to the Young Artists’ Wall at the Lewes Public Library.
