Tuesday, May 10, 2011

Those Present: Cindy Albright,  Wanda Berrigan,  Susy Bitzer, Rose Canavan, Linda Davison, Judy Doyle, Lynda Dunham, John Feliciani, Cindy Foster, Judy Gallagher, Helga Gayowski, Tana Gilmore, Warren Golde, Judy Heims, Donna Hoyt, Barbara Hunt, Evelyn Kryritsis, Kathy McCain, Kathy McDonough, Kathy McGovern, Barbara Petterson, Barbara Rudd, Nichol Thomson (NOTE: If your name is not on this list and you attended, that means you did not sign in – please do so at each meeting).

The meeting was called to order by Cindy Albright, Co-Chair.  Lynda Dunham reported on Membership.  She stated we have 29 paid members, six (6) Sustaining Members, four (4) Supporting Members and nineteen (19) Individual/Family Members.  Memberships are effective until May 1, 2012.  A suggestion was made to possibly add Business Memberships in the future.

Judy Heims gave the Treasurer’s Report.  The balance forwarded from 3/31/11 was $7,045.73.  The ending balance was $16,267.22 as of 5/3/11.  Income total was $7,944.26 and expenses for the month were $741.40.  The City of Lewes monies were received in the amount of $10,000.  Expenses from that money were $935.64 leaving a balance of $9,064.36.

She reported the plant sale went extremely well.  We sold $1,085 in plants, books and herbs, $135 worth of note cards, $5.00 in postcards, and $63 worth of gloves.  Expenses came to $159.62. Other income from the plant sale was Memberships $150, donations $135 and Membership T-Shirts $210.  The Net Income from the plant sale was $1,128.38.  Great job ladies!!!!!  Thanks for everyone’s support and volunteer time.

Cindy asked for ideas of where else we can sell the notecards and postcards.  Some suggestions were Lewes Gifts, Pilottown Village’s yard sale on June 4th and possibly Sand ‘n Stones.

Warren Golde, Co-Chair discussed Banners and Signs.  He will attend the next meeting of Parks and Rec to discuss placing banners and signs about town.  He stated the cost for lamp pole signs are approximately $100 each.  Vesuvios and Graves have agreed to let us place signs (which have been ordered) and should be delivered soon on the corner boxes.  Signs would also be nice on the barrels at St. Peters.

We talked about Rack Cards and where to place holders.  Some suggestions were Graves, 1812 Park, Historic Society, the Chamber of Commerce, and at the Colonial Herb Garden.  Kathy McGovern will ask PUPS.  We have time to further discuss this before tourist season begins.

Warren mentioned future plantings.  On Wednesday, May 11th members are to meet at the City Garage to plant hayracks for the bridge, baskets at City Hall, and cradles for 1812 Park.  On Thursday, May 19th we will again meet at the city garage and plant the barrels at the beach, Dairy Queen, and other places we have not yet planted.  Please bring trowels, brooms, and hoses.

Warren stated that suggestions have been made to plant tulips in the perennial garden on King’s Highway.  This lead to discussion on how many tulips we think we can sell this year.  Cindy Foster reported on past sales.  1100 were plants at Vesuvius, Graves and St. Peters this past fall.  Questions were raised as to when the Tulip Festival Committee meets again.  Warren will  check with Ted Becker to discuss this further.  Warren also stated he would like to see us naturalize daffodils in the future in Smith Park and other places.

NEW BUSINESS:   Helga Gayowski suggested in the future as a fund raiser we could host a “Secret Garden” event.  This could perhaps be a “Lewes In Bloom EVENT”.   We would need to check with the Chamber to be sure that this doesn’t conflict with other events in town.

Tuesdays, starting in June, will be the “Concerts in the Park” so a proposal was made to hold our June meeting on June 8th, a Wednesday.  Also, it was decided not to have a meeting in July or August.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 PM

Respectfully submitted,
Linda Davison
Secretary
