Warren and Jane Ellan owned and operated several florist shops in Sussex County and, she also did all the floral arrangements for Baywood Country Club and many weddings there every year. Jane Ellen brought several finished arrangements to the meeting and explained how she created them. She also demonstrated how to make a round centerpiece with greens that can be found in your own backyard. She then added several different kinds of flowers. Her demonstration was very enlightening and fun. We thank you Jane Ellan for a delightful evening. At the end of the evening Cindy Foster auctioned off the beautiful arrangements. Treasurer’s Report: Judy Heims reported that the balance forwarded as of 10/31/10 was $5611.45 General Business: Formation of Committees: Cindy Albright, CoChair, asked for volunteers to form a committee to seek ways to increase membership. Some of the Board members met with Mike Rawl. He has great ideas about memberships and, is willing to meet with a committee. Charter membership for current members was mentioned, as well as approaching business groups to grow our membership. No volunteers came forward so, it was suggested emailing Cindy Albright in the near future with ideas or, the Board could come up with ideas. Upcoming Trips: Linda Rathmanner will be unable to continue as trip arranger. Future trip ideas were discussed. 1) The Philadelphia Flower Show 2) Mt. Cuba in Wilmington and Chanticleer in Warren, PA Formation of a Men’s Group: Warren talked about the idea of a men’s group. The group would be “project driven” and could supply the man power needed to dig new flower beds, irrigation, and heavy duty weeding. We could approach young men’s groups, volunteers from the Trail Committee at Cape Helelopen State Park and perhaps students. New Beds: Warren plans to meet with Dave Robinson, Interim School Superintendent, in the near future to discuss planting on several school properties and, possibly involve design students in this endeavor. It was also suggested asking Boy Scouts working on Eagle Scout projects to become involved. He has already spoken to the Greenways Committee and they could use a group such as is being proposed to help them in future projects. Banners: New banners are needed around town in several places. We need to include “Winner of America In Bloom” to the original design. Warren/Cindy will contact Brenda Brady and the city to accomplish this. The Next Meeting of Lewes In Bloom is scheduled for January 11, 2011 The meeting started at 7 pm, and was adjourned at around 9 pm. Respectfully submitted, Minutes read, approved and emailed to LIB members on Monday, December 20, 2010. |
