Lewes In Bloom (LIB) started in 2002 to promote and maintain the beauty of Historic Lewes.
A small group of volunteers planted flowers in barrels on Second Street, in 1812 Park and near St. Peter's church and spent that first summer doing lots of hand watering due to a drought.
By 2003, The Lewes Chamber of Commerce donated funds for additional plants,
the Parks and Recreation department joined in the watering effort and the beautification of Lewes became a town-wide effort.
Lewes in Bloom entered the America in Bloom contest and won in 2003, 2005 and 2010 for cities with population under 5,000.
To improve fund-raising efforts,
LIB became incorporated as a 501(c)3 organization.
Volunteers who keep Lewes blooming are younger, older, men, women, and students.
